Concerned with the influence of technology in practicing law, Peking University Law School is looking to bring artificial intelligence (AI) into curriculums by establishing a new AI research centre.

Peking University Law School is partnering with a cloud-based analytical tool Gridsum to launch the research centre which will focus on the possibilities and opportunities of AI in China’s legal system.

The AI research centre, known as the Legal AI Lab, will use AI and big data to continue developing a product suite to be used for legal services. With AI taking the world by storm, the Legal AI Lab will also ensure that its law students are not left behind.

A major project of the Legal AI Lab will be the development of AI to create a ‘smart court’ initiative, where Chinese courts use AI to sift through and analyse documents and regulations to assist judges in determining cases.
