If a satellite is put into orbit high enough and goes fast enough, it stays in orbit: it just keeps falling around the earth.

I feel that’s what my blog is now doing. It’s not something I focus on at the moment; I have more pressing things occupying my mind. But I’m always rooting around contracts and exploring new ideas, and people send me tips, so without really trying I always have interesting stuff to write about.

And so I keep writing, mainly to memorialize my thinking and create an inventory of material I can dig through when preparing the next edition of A Manual of Style for Contract Drafting.

Of course I want to continue engaging with readers. According to Google Analytics, my pageviews are half what they were just two years ago. (64,396 in the past month versus 121,853, for those who are counting.) That perhaps reflects a certain fatigue, after 13 years of my blog. And most discussion has drifted to Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook, where those who follow them can see their comments. Heck, even I don’t read blogs anymore, unless something leads me to a post.

Another factor is that I’m not as prolific as I used to be. In the past fifty days I’ve posted 15 items on my blog; two years ago I did 30 in the equivalent period.

But those pointy-headed enough will keep finding their way to my blog. And I’ll keep posting, because it allows me to continue solidifying my foundation. It ain’t exciting or glamorous, but it remains the lifeblood of what I do.
