Sarasota Woman Killed, Infant In Critical After Red-Light Crash At University Pkwy & Lockwood

Manatee County FL  – Florida Highway Patrol reported a woman has died, and an infant child was in critical condition after being involved in a crash on University Parkway Sunday evening.

The crash took place as several vehicles were in the left turn lane of eastbound University Parkway at the intersection with Lockwood Ridge Road.

The vehicles and drivers included,  17 year old Destinee Foxx From Sarasota driving a 2004 Toyota Camry,  38 year old Michelle Kramer Baltaji  from Manassas Virginia driving a Lexus IS350 sedan with passengers, 70 year old Audrey Kramer of Sarasota, and newborn Abed Baltaji from Manassas Virginia, and 63 year old Edelman Bolanos of Sarasota driving a 2011 Chevy Malibu.

As the eastbound traffic in the left turn lane received the green turn light and proceeded into the intersection to turn onto Lockwood Ridge Road, westbound through traffic was still under a red signal.

At approximately 8:05 P.M. driver 34 year old David Bunick from Sarasota was approaching the intersection from the westbound lanes driving a 2015 BMW X5 sport utility vehicle at speed and failed to stop for the red light as the eastbound turn traffic was proceeding across the intersection.

The right front of Bunick’s SUV crashed into the rear of the Toyota Camry driven by Destinee Foxx causing the Camry to spin and before coming to a stop in the northbound lane of Lockwood Ridge Road. After colliding with the Camry, Bunick’s SUV continued on and the front of the BMW crashed into the side of the Lexus sedan driven by Michelle Baltaji with passengers Audrey Kramer, and newborn newborn Abed Baltaji.

The Lexus sedan was redirected to the northwest, and both vehicles were spun clockwise together until the rear left of the BMW SUV crashed into the front of the front of the Chevy Malibu driven by Bolanos.

After crashing into the Chevy Malibu the BMW SUV came to a stop facing the northwest in the intersection.

Driver David Bunick then exited his vehicle and fled the scene on foot, however authorities located him and brought him back to the scene of the accident.

While driver Michelle Kramer Baltaji suffered minor injuries in the crash, newborn Abed Baltaji was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Passenger Audrey Kramer died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Driver Edelman Bolanos suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Lakewood Ranch Hospital for treatment.

FHP has stated the investigation is ongoing and at the time of this writing, has not specified whether or not David Bunick was under the influence of alcohol during the crash.

Newborn Abed Baltaji was restrained in a child safety seat during the crash, however Audrey Kramer, who died from her injuries was not wearing a seat belt according to the report.
