If you are a Windows 10 user, you may have noticed a different icon to designate USB drives in Windows Explorer. Instead of showing a normal USB drive icon, Windows 10 1903 currently shows a generic storage icon. It is unknown when the bug first surfaced. Bleeping Computer has a post that shows what the icon looks like now and what it should look like. In a recent update, the issue is caused when the feature to download metadata and custom icons for installed devices is enabled in the “Device installation settings”. Unfortunately, changing the setting back will not display the correct icon. Even though the icon isn’t right, Windows is still detecting the device properly as both a storage device and a portable device.
