It’s February, and you know what that means! It’s almost time for ABA Techshow 2020. The MyCase team will be at Techshow at the Hyatt in Chicago from Febrary 27-29th, will you?

If one of your goals this year is  to learn all there is to know about using technology in your small law firm, then this is the place to be! Whether it’s cloud computing, mobile tools and apps, law practice management advice, paperless tips, or cybersecurity advice, you’ll find it all at Techshow.

Of course, there’s much more to Techshow than the educational sessions. So if you plan to be be in Chicago next week, here’s everything you need to know, from the schedule and the EXPO hall to the dinners and evening entertainment.

The Conference Before the Conference

First off, make sure you don’t miss the symposium happening on Wednesday February 27th: the ABA 2020 Women of Legal Tech Summit. It’s a one-day conference focused on bridging the legal tech gender gap and features recognition of the ABA Legal Technology Resource Center’s 2020 additions to the Women of Legal Tech, along with Ignite-style sessions from current and former honorees, a one hour CLE session, and an interactive workshop.

MyCase’s Legal Technology Evangelist, Niki Black, who is part of the inaugural 2015 class of the LTRC’s Women in Legal Tech honorees, will be speaking at the Summit, and her talk is titled “#AmplifyYourMessage.”

ABA Techshow attendees receive a discount to this conference. So if you haven’t already done so, you can register here.

The ABA Techshow Schedule

The full conference schedule can be found here. And, if you’re a first time attendee, make sure to read the ABA’s helpful guide to the conference.

And don’t forget to download the Techshow App so you can keep up to date on the latest happenings, create your agenda, interact with other attendees, and much more!

The Sessions

Techshow CLE seminars cover all the topics you need to know to get your law firm up to speed with 21st century legal technology tools. And this year we’re super excited to have MyCase’s very own Legal Technology Evangelist, Niki Black, speak at Techshow. She’ll be speaking at two different sessions on Friday February 28th, so make sure to stop by one of them, or better yet, both:

Of course there are lots of other sessions to attend as well, so if one of your goals this year is to use legal tech to get paid quickly, reduce administrative tasks, and get new clients, then you’re in luck! There are lots of great tracks to choose from and you’ll find sessions focused on marketing your law firm, law practice management, cybersecurity, and more. No matter what legal technology topics you’re interested in, there’s something for everyone at this year’s conference!

The EXPO Hall

The EXPO Hall is the place to be if learning about the latest legal software is a priority for you this year. Even if you don’t plan to attend the conference, you can still visit the EXPO Hall by picking up a free EXPO Hall pass here. You’ll find a vast assortment of legal software companies exhibiting at Techshow and can view this year’s EXPO Hall floor plan here.

Win an Apple Watch, grab some coffee and donuts, and drink some beer!

One part of the EXPO Hall that can’t be missed is the MyCase booth – especially if you’re in the market for law practice management software! Make sure to stop by and visit MyCase at booth 811. Grab coffee and donuts from 9 – 11 am on Thursday morning (2/27) and then stop by later on that afternoon for a beer from 3-5 pm.

And make sure to drop off your business card at the booth so you can enter to win an Apple Watch that we’ll be giving away!

Finally, keep an eye out for the visual notes sponsored by MyCase, which have become a well-recognized mainstay at Techshow. To give you a taste, you can view some of the visual notes from past years here.

Techshow Meetups

A more recent addition to Techshow is “Techshow Meetups.” These were designed to make it easy for you to connect with attendees with similar practices or interests. The meetups times and locations will be announced closer in time to the conference.

In the meantime, make sure to add the Legal Rebels Riot Luncheon to your calendar, which honors Women in Legal Tech and ABA Legal Rebels. MyCase’s Legal Technology Evangelist, Niki Black (a 2009 ABA Legal Rebel and 2015 Women in Legal Tech honoree) will be participating in the lunch, which will occur on Thursday, February 27th at noon, .

Parties and More

Of course, there’s more to Techshow than the seminars and the EXPO Hall. Networking and nights out on the town are just as important. The good news is that there are lots of ways to get out there and network – and have some fun!

For starters, on Wednesday, February 26th, the Start-Up Pitch Competition will be held from 5-6 pm in the EXPO Hall. Watch presentations from the 15 competitors and then cast your vote for the most innovative company. Then immediately afterward, the welcome reception will be held from 6 -7:30 pm.

Dinner Plans

And last, but not least, there’s dinner. You’ve gots lots of choices when it comes to dinner at Techshow. You can meet the speakers and network with friends and colleagues at the Taste of Techshow dinners. The dinners are held on Friday night and you can sign up once you arrive at the conference at the concierge desk.
