<p style=”text-align: center;”>Walz, Flanagan Thank Chair of Judicial Selection Commission and Announce Process to Fill Vacancy<strong style=”text-align: left;”>&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p>[ST. PAUL, MN] &ndash; Today, Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan announced that Lola Velazquez-Aguilu is stepping down as chair of the Commission on Judicial Selection to join the Attorney General&rsquo;s office as a Special Assistant Attorney General.</p>
<p>&ldquo;I want to thank Ms. Velazquez-Aguilu for her service on the Commission. Her service, commitment, and dedication will have a lasting impact on our state and the Commission,&rdquo;&nbsp;said Governor Walz.&nbsp;&ldquo;She has done great work engaging Minnesota&rsquo;s many diverse communities and making the judicial selection process more transparent and accessible.&rdquo;</p>
<p>&ldquo;Under Ms. Velazquez-Aguilu&rsquo;s leadership, the Commission has instituted important changes that are critical to the diversification of the judiciary,&rdquo;&nbsp;said Lt. Governor Flanagan.&nbsp;&ldquo;She has done an exceptional job, and we are certain she will bring the same level of excellence to her new role. I&rsquo;m incredibly grateful for our work together.&rdquo;</p>
<p>Ms. Velazquez-Aguilu&rsquo;s departure creates a vacancy for one at-large member of the Commission. Per statute, the Governor appoints one of the at-large members to serve as chair. The Governor and Lieutenant Governor are seeking applicants to fill the at-large and chair positions. Individuals wishing to apply to be an at-large member and/or chair of the commission must submit a cover letter addressed to the Governor and a resume via email to&nbsp;<a href=”mailto:Judicial.Selection@state.mn.us” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener noreferrer” data-auth=”NotApplicable”>Judicial.Selection@state.mn.us</a>.
