CHARLOTTE COUNTY – Florida Highway Patrol announced a motorcyclist was seriously injured after being hit by a car on US 41 Monday afternoon.

The crash took place as a 33-year-old man from Venice was riding a motorcycle heading south on US 41 in the left lane, approaching the intersection with Dahlgren Avenue.

As the motorcyclist was continuing south, an unknown driver was driving north in the northbound lanes of US 41 also approaching the intersection with Dahlgren Avenue.

At 4:58:00 PM, the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle and crossed the median, and drove directly into the path of the oncoming motorcyclist.

The motorcycle crashed into the motorcycle and the force of the collision threw the ride from the motorcycle, where he came to a stop on the pavement of the inside lane. The motorcycle continued on before coming to a stop on the curb of Dahlgren Avenue.

After crashing into the motorcycle the unknown car, possibly a white-colored Honda sedan made an immediate U-turn at northbound US 41 and fled the site of the crash driving down Dahlgren Avenue.

Florida Highway Patrol has stated the unknown vehicle is possibly a white Honda sedan and asked that anyone with knowledge of the accident or the vehicle contact FHP or Crimestoppers.
