LEE COUNTY – Two people have died in a car accident on State Road 82 in Lehigh Acres Friday night.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash began as a 19-year old man from Lehigh Acres was driving a sedan westbound in the center lane of State Road 82 just east of Owen Avenue with two passengers.

At the same time, a 50-year-old man from Lehigh Acres driving a Sport Utility Vehicle was stopped at the driveway of Lee Memorial Park (located at 12777 State Road 82) with a passenger. The passenger was a 44-year-old man from Lehigh Acres.

At 10:39 PM, the driver of the SUV proceeded out of the driveway and onto State Road 82, attempting to turn left onto SR 82.

The SUV drove directly into the path of the oncoming sedan, and the car crashed into the left side of the sport utility vehicle.

The force of the crash caused the SUV to be pushed off the roadway and onto the northern shoulder of SR 82, before coming to a stop on an embankment facing south.

After colliding with the SUV, the car lost control and crossed over the median on State Road 82 before coming to a stop on the eastbound lanes of SR 82.

Both the driver and passenger of the SUV were fatally injured in the accident.

The driver and passengers of the sedan all sustained minor injuries.

FHP stated all parties in the accident had been wearing their seatbelts during the crash, and that accident remains under investigation.
