The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois recently announced that 26 people are facing criminal charges after a federal drug investigation. Federal officials purchased fentanyl-laced heroin and crack cocaine on two dozen undercover purchases over a three-month period this past summer. Thirteen people were arrested over the summer for drug and firearm related charges while an additional thirteen people were arrested for drug conspiracy.

One of those arrested was identified as operating the drug trafficking organization in the East Garfield Park neighborhood and allegedly distributed over 124 grams of fentanyl laced heroin and 38 grams of cocaine. The dealers working within the organization used a phone line to arrange deliveries and organize sales. Eleven of the dealers have been charged. The investigation included the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Chicago Police Department, and Cook County Sheriff, among others.
