SARASOTA FL – Florida Highway Patrol reported a motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon after a car turned into their path.
The accident took place as a 20-year-old man from Sarasota was riding a motorcycle northbound on Beneva Road at a high rate of speed, approaching the intersection with Beneva Terrace.
As the motorcycle speed north, a sedan driven by a 54-year-old woman from Sarasota was stopped facing south on southbound Beneva road on the left turn lane of Beneva Terrace.
At 4:50 in the afternoon, the sedan attempted to make a left turn from Beneva road onto Beneva Terrace and drove directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.
The front of the motorcycle crashed into the right side of the car. The collision caused the motorcycle to overturn and threw the ride from the motorcycle onto the roadway, where he came to a stop at the intersection of Beneva Road, and Beneva Terrace.
After the crash, the car came to a stop at the area of the collision.
The motorcyclist died from his injuries sustained in the accident.
FHP has stated the accident remains under investigation.
The motorcyclist had been wearing a helmet during the crash.
