PORT CHARLOTTE – FHP has announced one person was seriously injured after a motorcycle vs motorcycle accident on Kings Highway Saturday afternoon.

The accident happened as a group of motorcyclists was driving northbound in the right lane of Kings Highway, approaching the intersection with Sandhill Boulvard.

In the group of motorcyclists was a 61-year-old man from Port Charlotte. Also on the motorcycle with the 61-year-old Port Charlotte man was a 48-year-old woman from port charlotte.

Following behind the Port Charlotte man was a 45-year-old man from Cape Coral also riding a motorcycle.

At 12:39:00 PM the Port Charlotte motorcyclist stopped his vehicle in the right merge lane of Sandhill Blvd., due to slowed traffic.

The 45-year-old man from Cape Coral failed to slow down for the motorcycle stopped just ahead and swerved left attempting to avoid crashing into the motorcycle. However, the right front of the Cape Coral man’s motorcycle crashed into the left rear side of the Port Charlotte man’s motorcycle.

After the collision, both motorcycles came to a controlled stop in the right merge lane of Kings Highway at Sandhill Blvd.

The 61-year-old man from Port Charlotte was seriously injured in the crash.

Neither the passenger of the motorcycle or the driver who caused the crash were hurt in the accident.

The man from Cape Coral was charged with careless driving.
