FORT MYERS – Florida Highway Patrol announced two people have died and one person was in serious condition after a car accident on Palm Beach Boulevard Monday evening.

The crash happened as a pickup truck driven by a 74-year-old woman from Fort Myers with a 73-year-old male passenger was stopped at a driveway located at  11161 Palm Beach Boulevard in Fort Myers, intending on making a left turn from the drive, onto westbound Palm Beach Blvd.

At the same time a car driven by a 20-year-old man from Labelle was driving eastbound on Palm Beach Blvd., in the left lane approaching the drive at 11161 Palm Beach Blvd.

At 5:40:00 PM the driver of the pickup truck drove forward attempting to turn left from the drive, across the median, and onto westbound Palm Beach Boulevard.

The pickup truck violated the oncoming sedan’s right-of-way, and the front of the approaching car crashed into the left side of the pickup truck.

The force of the collision caused the pickup truck to overturned before coming to a rest on its left side in the immediate area of the crash.

Both the driver of the pickup truck and passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.

The 20-year-old man from 20-year-old man from Labelle was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

FHP has stated that the crash remains under investigation.
