We’re back with the latest blogs that have joined the LexBlog community over the past month. If you’ve got any interest in tax law, legal business development, or labor law, you’ve come to the right place. On top of that, we take a closer look into the life of successful lawyer—and now blogger—Richard Hastings of Hastings, Cohan, & Walsh.

Richard Hastings’ passion for helping others reflected in his work as a lawyer

Richard Hastings helped found Hastings, Cohan, & Walsh 33 years ago and has been working to help those injured in the state of Connecticut ever since. The passion for helping others has always been instilled in him, and if being a lawyer wasn’t in the cards, Richard might have opted to go down the route of motivational speaking/coaching.

“Because I love helping people and seeing them grow, especially students, I would be a motivational speaker and coach to help young people realize their potential and to encourage them to keep moving forward in setting and obtaining their goals.”

Along the same vein, some of his proudest moments—aside from parenting his three children—have come from helping his clients out.

“On a professional level, I am most proud of the fact that I am able to help people that have been seriously injured and are experiencing some of the worst times of their lives. It gives me so much joy and personal satisfaction to be able to take someone from a horrible place and help return them to some level of normalcy while encouraging them along the way.”

The launch of Connecticut Injury Resource Guide will further his goal in helping others, as it aims to create a statewide community for those that have been injured, by sharing interviews with leading experts and communicating topical advice.

Being the founding partner of a successful law firm, the CEO and co-founder of a number of other enterprises, a father, and now a blogger doesn’t leave a lot of time left over—but Richard enjoys making it work.

“I am a huge fan of work/life balance. I am at the gym every morning at 4 AM. I meditate with Buddhist monks. I attend motivational seminars and educational workshops so I am constantly learning and meeting wonderfully interesting people. It really helps me to recharge my batteries!”
