Say it isn’t so. Alas, it is. Logitech has announced it will cease manufacturing Harmony universal remotes. Just because Logitech will no longer make the remotes, there is still some supply available for purchase. But what about support for the remotes? Apparently, Logitech will support the remotes as long as people continue to use them. Well, count me in.

I have been using a Harmony 650 remote for years. It controls the TV, Onkyo 7.1 surround sound amplifier, satellite box and Blu-ray player. One button powers everything up with complete control off all components. It’s a great experience to have one remote and not having to pull multiple remotes from the coffee table drawer. I get that Roku and multiple streaming services has reduced the need for cable converter boxes and optical discs.

When I saw multiple posts about Logitech “shutting down” the Harmony remotes, I jumped on the Best Buy website and purchased a Harmony 665 remote. I will “retire” my 650 remote until the 665 warranty expires. I’m counting on single remote usage for many years.
