MANATEE COUNTY – Florida Highway Patrol announced one person was injured after they collided with a Speedway Fuel Tanker Semi-Tractor Trailer early Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred as a 28-year-old woman from Tampa Florida was driving a sedan northbound on Interstate 275 in the inside lane.

At the same time, a 64-year-old man from Palmetto Florida was driving a semi-tractor trailer fuel tanker, in the outside lane of northbound I-275 in the vicinity of the sedan.

At 2:41:00 AM, the driver of the car swerved out of her lane, traveled across the roadway and the right front of the car crashed into the left rear axle of the sem-tractor trailer.

After crashing into the truck, the car drove off the roadway, overturned then crashed into a cable barrier, and came to a stop in the median then burst into flames.

After being hit by the car, the driver of the semi, drove off the roadway and came to a stop on the grassy shoulder on the east side of I-275.

FHP responded to the accident and took the driver of the car into custody for driving under the influence.

Despite the violent crash, the driver of the car suffered only minor injuries.
