Pardon the off-topic post, but I am pleased to share that yesterday I was inducted as a player into the Wisconsin High School Basketball Hall of Fame.

Below is the Hall of Fame Bio.

Mike was born and raised in Elkhart Lake, WI, the son of a painter and nurse who sacrificed much to give him the opportunity to succeed. During his youth, Mike would keep his neighbors up with the sound of a dribbling basketball on the driveway court, was known to dribble around town while also riding his bike, and confesses to sneaking into the school gyms on more than one occasion.

Mike was a four year Varsity starter for the Resorter basketball team (1989-1993) and lead his team to two Central Lakeshore Conference championships and was a four-time unanimous all-conference selection, three-time all-state selection, and earned all-American honors. Among Mike’s career highlights were: as a freshman making a last second shot upon receiving a pass from his senior brother to secure the school’s first conference championship in over 50 years; as a sophomore scoring a career high 52 points in a game; and as a junior and senior playing in packed gyms as he climbed the state’s all-time leading scorer chart. A versatile offensive player who was equally capable of shooting three pointers or posting up, Mike ended his high school career with 2,685 points (a 30.2 ppg career average) and remains the third-leading boys scorer in the history of Wisconsin high school basketball.

Upon graduating from high school as a National Honor Society inductee, Mike accepted a basketball scholarship to the University of South Dakota (USD) where he contributed to a conference championship team and was a two-time academic all-conference selection.  After graduating with honors from USD, Mike returned to the Badger state to attend law school and graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin Law School and was a lawyer in private practice at one of Wisconsin’s leading law firms for nearly a decade. Thereafter, Mike became a law professor and a leading expert in his area of law including testifying before Congress. In 2018, Mike and his high-school sweetheart turned wife Melissa returned to their hometown of Elkhart Lake where they currently reside with their twin boys Dakota and Canyon. Mike continues to be a law professor at various schools, operates his own consulting company, and is the head boys basketball coach at his alma mater.

Mike enters the Hall of Fame with grateful appreciation for his many teammates and coaches who contributed to his success, his older brother’s “tough love” which motivated him to get better, the love and support of his parents and wife, and the support Resorter Nation has shown him throughout his basketball career. For Mike, basketball was a vehicle to meet individuals from diverse backgrounds, travel the country and world, and secure an education. His induction also demonstrates that through hard work, small-town kids can accomplish big-time dreams.
