Thank you for being a part of the Miles for Meso community and for supporting the 13th Annual Alton Miles for Meso VIRTUAL 5K Run & 3K Fun Run/Walk.

In this year’s race, nearly 1,000 people participated, including 30 different teams. For a virtual event, such participation is truly extraordinary. Participants at this year’s event came from all across the United States as well from abroad, with virtual racers joining from Canada, Australia, and South Africa.

We are extremely thankful to everyone who took part in the day’s festivities. As a special thank you, ADAO National Spokesperson Jordan Zevon, the son of Warren Zevon who passed away from mesothelioma, has shared a special recording with the Miles for Meso community in the above video. It features one of Jordan’s original songs, “Home,” virtually performed by the band FF5. The performance originally aired during ADAO’s 16th annual conference and has been updated to include photos submitted by all of you from this year’s virtual race.

Below is more information regarding post-race results and how you can continue to be involved.

Funds Raised

This year, Miles for Meso raised $38,000 for the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), a non-profit dedicated to securing a global ban of asbestos and providing support to victims of asbestos-related diseases. This total includes $25,000 from the race and nearly $13,000 raised by race teams and individual donors. 

This year, the top fundraising teams were:

 

  • Georgie Porgie Meso Patrol: $2,537.55
  • Captain Bob’s Warriors: $614.93
  • Gucci Gavel Gang: $575.73

 

While the ADAO team also raised $1,806.33, the ADAO team is not eligible for the top team award.

The top individual fundraisers were:

 

  • Evan Allgood: $1,192.37
  • Alison Dreith: $1,180.96
  • Chelsea Gundlock: $564.23

 

We’d also like to recognize and thank everyone who individually donated, including the top donors of the event, the Amento Family and the Gianaris Kids.

Results

Congratulations to the winners of this year’s race. Shareholder Andrew Murrie from Clayton, Missouri finished the 5K race with a time of 18:20 and earned first place in the Men’s Category. Kimberly Petrillo, from Haverhill, Massachusetts, won first place in the Women’s Category with a time of 25:31.
