On 30 November 2021, the European Commission issued a targeted consultation intended to gather evidence on the current macroprudential rules for credit institutions in line with the better regulation principles and in view of the forthcoming legislative review mandated by Article 513 of the Capital Requirements Regulation (CRR). The information obtained will feed into the impact assessment for a possible legislative proposal.

Article 513 CRR requires the Commission to complete a review of the macroprudential provisions in CRR and in Capital Requirements Directive IV by June 2022 and, if appropriate, to submit a legislative proposal to the European Parliament and to the Council by December 2022.

The deadline for comments on the consultation is 18 March 2022.
