Don’t you just love having to purchase multiple connectors for charging and transferring data from your mobile devices? It’s taken a few years, but a very large number of mobile devices have standardized on the USB-C connector. That is, everyone but Apple. Apple is still beholden to its proprietary Lightning connector. Why not have another way to suck money from the consumer? Perhaps change is in the air. The Verge reports Apple may ditch the Lightning port in favor of the industry standard USB-C in 2023.

A USB-C connection would actually improve the transfer speeds for Apple devices. The switch would also get Apple out of the crosshairs of the EU, which is considering making USB-C a requirement. The connector switch is only a rumor at this time. Let’s hope it really isn’t a rumor and signals the death of the Lightning port.
