Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) has introduced the Digital Platform Commission Act, which would create a federal commission (Commission) to oversee and regulate digital platforms.  The Commission would: (1) promote consumer protection, access to government services, and public safety; (2) foster competition; and (3) ensure that algorithms are transparent, safe, fair, and promote civil engagement.  The president would appoint five members to the proposed Commission, subject to Senate confirmation.  The Commission would also establish a “Code Council,” composed of 18 members who would propose voluntary or enforceable standards, policies, or codes for digital platforms.
