We really don’t know what information software is capturing about our activity. Facebook got caught with its pants down with the Cambridge Analytica debacle. Users have complained for a long time about getting targeted ads from their browser activity. To help protect your privacy, CNET recommends switching over to DuckDuckGo for your default search engine. I agree. Some of the cited reasons are:
- Stop online trackers from spying on you
- You’ll see fewer ads
- Websites should load faster
- Your search history isn’t stored
- Your search results won’t be influenced by your browsing history
DuckDuckGo has been criticized for giving some preference to Microsoft as a result of its partnership agreement. Nothing is perfect. I’ll take blocking the majority of trackers over perfection.
