As the story goes, it hurts when you beat your head against a wall. If you want the pain to stop, just don’t do that. BleepingComputer reported that Microsoft Outlook crashes when you open an Uber receipt. The sure-fire solution is not to use Uber. Microsoft commented, “When opening, replying, or forwarding some emails that include complex tables, Outlook stops responding.” Apparently, the same problem exists with the Microsoft Word app.

A fix will be available as part of Patch Tuesday on August 9, 2022. If you insist on using Uber and opening receipts in Outlook, there is a workaround. The workaround reverts your Office installation to an earlier build.

  1. Open a Command Prompt as an Administrator
  2. Type or paste the two commands into the Command Prompt window and press Enter after each.
    1. cd %programfiles%Common FilesMicrosoft SharedClickToRun
    1. officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.15225.20288
