Introduction

The working holiday visa for an Italian citizen derives from the reciprocal working holiday agreements signed by the Italian republic. This kind of visa allows Italian travelers to experience living in another country without the usual costs of finding a sponsored employer or expensive tuition fees for university.

The working holiday visa for Italian citizens allows them to work in a partner country for six months to a year and earn money on the side for their travel. Since this is a reciprocal agreement, citizens of partner countries, such as New Zealand, can also get a six-month work permit for working and traveling in Italy.

Therefore, the working holiday visa for Italian citizens is limited to certain countries, and applicants from other parts of the world, such as the United States, Hong Kong, and the Russian Federation, cannot get it.

Which Countries Offer Working Holiday Visa to Italians?

As part of the mutual cultural exchange agreements between Italy with various other countries, Italian passport holders can get a working holiday visa for Australia, Canada, South Korea, and New Zealand.

If an applicant has Italian citizenship, they can travel to one of the partner countries with a working holiday visa for up to six months. This visa also issues the applicant a temporary work permit to work in a partner country for up to six months to fund travel.

At the same time, residence holders of partner countries can work for six months in Italy and travel through the country as part of this foreign affairs program. The privileges of a working holiday visa for Italian citizens may vary for each country.

Australia

While most countries only allow Italian citizens to receive a working holiday visa once in their lives, the Australian government will enable them to receive it up to three times.

With the working holiday visa for Italians, applicants can do short-term work to support their travel in Australia, study for a short course of four months, travel in and out of Australia and do short-term work within the sub-class 417 category.

If an Italian citizen has already received a work permit for Australia through a working holiday visa, they can apply for the exact two more times. However, to apply for this work permit again, the Italian passport holder must satisfy the prerequisites of attaining it a second or third time. This kind of visa will not act as a residence permit for Italian citizens in Australia.

Canada

Italians do not require a tourist visa to visit Canada for short visits. They may visit simply by applying for a Canadian eta. However, they need a visa to engage in paid employment.

The Canadian working holiday visa for Italian citizens is a part of the International Experience Program (IEC.) This visa category allows Italian applicants to find temporary employment in Canada to pay for their travel to the country. After the expiry of 6 months, Italian citizens can extend this visa for 6 more months. Therefore, this work permit allows an Italian citizen to remain in Canada for a year and engage in temporary employment. However, this visa application can only be accepted for an Italian citizen once in their lifetime. This kind of visa will not act as a residence permit for Italian citizens in Canada.

The South Korean working holiday visa can only be used once by Italian citizens in a lifetime. Although this visa usually does not allow Italian citizens to enroll in full-time university courses, they can enroll in short-term Korean language courses. They can also undertake temporary employment to fund their travel in South Korea.

New Zealand

New Zealand working holiday visa for an Italian passport holder allows them to work in New Zealand for up to one year. Moreover, with this type of visa, Italians can also enroll in a short-term educational or vocational training course. The duration of this course must be six months.
