Medical: National Consensus Statement – Essential elements for safe and high quality end of life care.

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care has developed a draft revised consensus statement.

The Consensus Statement sets out suggested practices when providing end-of-life care in all relevant healthcare settings. First released in 2015, the Consensus Statement reflects the views of health consumers, carers, healthcare experts and the Commission.

The updated Consensus Statement broadens the scope beyond hospitals, where more than half of Australians will die. It now includes Primary and Community Health Care and residential aged care settings to ensure everyone receives high-quality end-of-life care in every health setting. Another change is the added requirement to provide bereavement support to carers and families.

Comments can be made using a survey until 14 January 2023.
