MANATEE COUNTY – Florida Highway Patrol has announced one person has died and two others have been severely injured after a motorcycle struck a pedestrian Tuesday morning.

The crash took place as a 63-year-old man from Canada was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle on State Road 70 west of the intersection with 87th Street East.

The motorcycle was traveling west in the left lane behind other traffic, and also carried a passenger, a 58-year-old woman from Canada.

As the motorcyclist and passenger traveled westbound on SR 70, a 64-year-old man from Palmetto was standing in the median of State Road 70 ahead of the oncoming motorcycle.

At 11:57:00 AM, the pedestrian stepped into the inside (left) lane of westbound state road 70, and into the path of the oncoming traffic.

The other traffic in front of the motorcycle was forced to brake hard to avoid colliding with the pedestrian, as the pedestrian continued on foot to cross westbound SR 70 by walking in a northerly direction. Rather than stopping the pedestrian continued to try and cross SR 70 and walked into the path of the oncoming motorcyclist.

The motorcycle attempted to avoid a crash but collided with the pedestrian and both driver and passenger of the Harley Davidson were thrown from the motorcycle onto the roadway.

The pedestrian was fatally injured by the crash and Manatee County EMS pronounced the man deceased.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 63-year-old man from Canada, was critically injured in the collision. The passenger a 58-year-old woman from Canada, was seriously injured as well.

Both the driver of the motorcycle and the passenger were taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton for emergency medical treatment.

FHP has stated that this fatal crash is still under investigation.
