SARASOTA FL – Florida Highway Patrol released new details about the fatal hit-and-run collision that happened Friday morning on Beneva Road in Sarasota near the intersection with Glen Ridge Lane.

The deadly crash took place as a 70-year-old man from Sarasota was riding a bicycle south on Beneva Road very early Friday morning (After midnight Thursday).

As the man traveled along Beneva Road an unknown driver of a vehicle described as possibly being a Silver colored 2006-2010 Ford Fusion was approaching the Bicyclist from behind also heading southbound on Beneva Road.

At 12:15 AM the sedan encountered the bicyclist and crashed into the rear of the bicycle at speed.

The force of the collision fatally injured the man who was pronounced deceased by first responders at the scene of the crash. After fatally colliding with the bicyclist the driver of the sedan fled the scene. The sedan was stated as having missing the passenger side mirror and damage to the front of the car.

FHP has stated that they are looking for anyone with knowledge about the crash or the vehicle involved in the collision and to contact them at *FHP or from the Crimestoppers website.

SARASOTA FL – Florida Highway Patrol is looking for the perpetrator of a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred early Friday morning.

The collision took place on Beneva Road south of the intersection with Wilkinson Road near Glen Ridge Lane, as a vehicle described as a silver 2006 – 2010 Ford Fusion sedan, crashed into a bicyclist fatally injuring them.

The sedan was said to be missing the passenger side mirror and had front-end damage.

FHP has stated that more details about the crash will be released later Friday.

Authorities have asked anyone with knowledge of the deadly crash or the vehicle to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at *FHP or the Crimestoppers website.
