Martinelli’s recalls apple juice because of potential patulin contamination

S Martinelli & Company, of Watsonville, CA, is recalling 7,234 cases of its Apple Juice because of potential contamination with patulin, a mycotoxin that can pose health risks.

The recall, initiated on March 18, 2025, is classified as a Class II recall, indicating a low risk of serious health consequences, though temporary or reversible effects may occur. The recall remains ongoing, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The affected products were distributed to stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin.

As of the posting of this recall, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this issue.

Consumers are urged not to consume the recalled apple juice and should discard the product or return it to the place of purchase. Businesses should cease selling or distributing the affected lots.

About patulin contamination
Patulin is a mycotoxin produced by certain molds that can grow on apples. Ingesting high levels of patulin may cause nausea, gastrointestinal discomfort, or other temporary effects. Consumers experiencing symptoms after consuming the product should consult a healthcare provider immediately.
