A second man was arrested for the death of a 60-year-old British man on the MSC Virtousa during its May 3rd–5th voyage. The man was identified as a 56-year-old from Richmond, London. The man’s name was not released by authorities. The first man arrested was a 57-year-old man from Exeter. Both men were released on bail.

The victim has been identified as James Messham, a grandfather and former stunt performer.

As previously reported by CruiseLawNews, the tragedy occurred just two hours into the ship’s voyage and there was heavy drinking among the passengers. The victim and the first man arrested were reportedly part of the same group going on the cruise.

Authorities have released few details about the incident, but some have emerged. Messham was on the dance floor moments prior to his death. Furthermore, a medic tried to save his life after the altercation.

The investigation is still ongoing. Police had the following to say regarding the incident, according to USA TODAY, “We remain keen to hear from anyone who was aboard the ship, which had departed Southampton around 6pm on Saturday and was still in British waters at the time. Anyone with information should call 101.”
