Hak brand Boerenkool and Spinazie recalled in Canada because of rubber pieces

Custan Foods Ltd. is recalling Hak brand Boerenkool and Spinazie products because of possible contamination with pieces of rubber, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

This Class 3 recall affects products distributed to retail in Nova Scotia and Ontario, Canada.

Recalled Products:

  • Hak Boerenkool
    • Size: 340 g
    • UPC: 8720600608605
    • Codes: LG262 up to and including LG292
  • Hak Boerenkool
    • Size: 680 g
    • UPC: 8720600609824
    • Codes: LG262 up to and including LG292
  • Hak Spinazie
    • Size: 330 g
    • UPC: 8720600608940
    • Codes: LG262 up to and including LG292
  • Hak Spinazie
    • Size: 630 g
    • UPC: 8720600609817
    • Codes: LG262 up to and including LG292

As of the posting of this recall, no illnesses have been reported.

Affected retailers and consumers are advised not to use, sell, serve or distribute the recalled products. The products should be discarded or returned to the supplier.

About foreign material contamination

Pieces of rubber in food products can cause injury to the mouth, throat or digestive tract if ingested and may pose a choking hazard. Consumers who have consumed the affected products and experience symptoms such as pain or difficulty swallowing should seek medical attention.
