Medical News Today reported on June 15 an existing drug may prevent brain injury and seizures in newborns.
The drug, Topiramate, has already been approved by the Federal Drug Administration to prevent seizures in adults and children above the age of three. The National Institute of Health funded two studies which were conducted at Children’s Hospital Boston. The results of these two studies may provide a basis for expanding the drugs use to prevent brain injuries and seizures in children younger than three.
