Darryl Hunt, a North Carolina man exonerated after spending 18 years in prison on a murder conviction, has just founded the Darryl Hunt Project for Freedom and Justice to hear inmates’ claims of innocence and to help freed inmates rejoin society.
Although DNA evidence proved in 1994 that Hunt did not commit the rape that occurred in conjunction with the murder for which Hunt was convicted, Hunt was forced to spend 10 more years in prison, until authorities found evidence leading them to a new suspect thought to have acted alone in killing the woman.
With the money he earns from making guest speeches and other fund-raising sources, Hunt plans to create a foundation that uses private investigators to examine cases in Forsyth County, the County where Hunt was wrongly convicted. For further details about this story click here.
