The June 2005 issue of The Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization is devoted to surveying, assessing and honoring the life-time of scholarship by Vincent and Lin Ostrom. The Ostrom’s research has focused on both constitutional craftsmanship as well as the self-governing mechanism that sustain social order in a variety of historical settings. The Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis that the Ostrom’s created at Indiana University serves as a model of educational and research collaboration between graduate students and professors.

The first paper in the volume written jointly by Chris Coyne and myself and entitled “Methodological Individualism, Spontaneous Order and the Research Program of the Workshop in Political Theory and Policy” is an exercise in the archeology of knowledge and shows the strong parallels in the work of the Ostrom’s and scholars in the Austrian School of Economics.
