New Rules for New Jersey Common Interest Community Associations

New Jersey’s Department of Community Affairs recently adopted rules governing child-protection window guards. Under current New Jersey law, certain common interest community associations and cooperatives are considered multiple dwellings with common elements and thus there has been speculation that these new rules will apply to those associations. However, the Chief of the Department of Community Affairs’ Bureau of Housing Inspection recently put in writing that, “condominiums are still exempt from the regulations requiring the installation of child-protection window guards.”
