A recent article in the Star Ledger reports that Governor Jon Corzine signed a bill earlier this month, which will create a Teenage Driver Safety Commission. This panel was proposed by Monmouth County lawmakers who introduced the bill after an accident on January 10th, which claimed the lives of 3 teenagers and a 68-year old resident of Old Bridge, New Jersey.
The panel will review the availability and effectiveness of defensive driving and accident prevention courses, and will analyze the type of violations that are factors in teenage driving accidents.
I believe this bill will have a great impact on every citizen of New Jersey. Even the safest of drivers are still put at risk when an under-experienced driver gets behind the wheel. By attempting to prevent the problem, rather than remedy it after the fact, we can begin to significantly decrease the number of lives lost by auto accident deaths, and those affected by traumatic brain injures.
