Notable articles from the Blogs of Note

There have been several notable articles recently from the Social Security disability “Blogs of Note” listed on the sidebar of this blog.

  • At the Colorado Social Security Disability Law blog, Colorado Springs Lawyer Tomasz Stasiuk has an article entitled “If I have a Lawyer, Why Am I Doing All the Talking?” There is sometimes a misconception among claimants that their lawyer will do all the talking at the Social Security disability hearing. Instead, the hearing is the opportunity for the claimant’s testimony to be evaluated by the administrative law judge. Most of a lawyer’s work is preparation for that hearing.
  • At the Social Security Disability Blog, moderator and Georgia disability attorney Jonathan Ginsberg has an article “What Happens to my Case if I Return to Work While Waiting for my Hearing?” Jonathan also has a related Social Security disability video podcast: “Why Does Social Security Have a Problem with Part Time Work?”
  • At the California Social Security Lawyer Blog, there is an article discussing the 9th Circuit case Vasquez v. Astrue. That decision states than an ALJ must have clear and convincing reasons for rejecting a claimant’s testimony regarding pain. Great case, and great discussion by San Francisco Social Security attorney Geri Kahn.
  • At the Wisconsin Disability Blog, read about Your Right to a Hearing Before an Administrative Law Judge, written by Donald Chewning, a Wisconsin disability lawyer.

Gordon attended Maine Maritime Academy and Tulane University Law School. At Tulane, he served as Senior Articles Editor of the Tulane Law Review and graduated magna cum laude. He was admitted to practice law in Maine in 1991. Since 2005, he has concentrated his law practice on Social Security disability and SSI cases.

Gordon is the publisher of Social Security Disability Lawyer, a nationally-read legal blog. He presented at the Fall 2010 conference of National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR) on the topic of Writing Hearing Briefs for the ALJ.
