Regulatory Roundup 3.4.11

  • During law school, I sort of liked having to carry a copy of Blacks Law Dictionary, it made me feel extra-smart. The distinct benefit of carrying a dictionary is that is serves as a (heavy) reminder of the importance of defining your terms. Because the FCPA doesn’t, we get to read posts like this.
  • In breaking news … some government contracts are wasteful.
  • I always have a moment of anxiety when my bag has to go through the scanners at the airport. Did I get out my shaving cream? Is there a water bottle left in there? Did I accidentally pack my cigar cutter? I have never once had to worry if the scanners would find the dissembled remains of 60 firearms I was illegally exporting out of the US.
  • Free advertising and fishing expeditions are two justifications for why GAO bid protests have reached a 15 year high. This article by Robert Brodsky draws back the curtain in a discussion of the flaws, as well as those taking advantage, of the current system of government contracting.
  • I’m a lawyer; so unlike that baby in the cars.com commercial, I have very little experience fighting fires. However, given my stated lack of experience, I feel rather confident that fighting fires with gasoline probably isn’t going to settle things down. Please allow Robert Reich to explain.
