Beginning on April 2, 2012, USCIS began issuing the Form I-797C, Notice of Action, commonly know as the “Receipt Notice”, with a new look and feel. The Form is now being printed on plain white bond paper, an initiative expected to save USCIS approximately $1.1 million per year.
The Form I-797C Notice of Action is used for the limited purpose of communicating between individuals and USCIS with regard to Notifications of: Receipt, Rejection, Transfer, Re-Open and Appointment (i.e. biometrics appointment).
This change is, in part, intended to reduce public perception that Form I-797C can be used as evidence of an individual’s immigration status or grant of an immigration benefit. Accordingly, the new Form I-797C clearly displays “THIS NOTICE DOES NOT GRANT ANY IMMIGRATION STATUS OR BENEFIT” across the top of the document.
