E-mail is an effective communication tool if it is used properly. But it is easy for lawyers and law students to inadvertently convey the wrong message in e-mails. Judge Gerald Lebovits wrote an excellent article, “E-mail Netiquette for Lawyers” in the November/ December 2009 edition of the New York State Bar Association Journal. Lebovits outlines several e-mail rules and guidelines for attorneys. Use the Library’s Quick Links to find this article on Westlaw. For more general e-mail etiquette tips see the OWL at Purdue.
