New York Partner, Ted Kobus, co-leader of the Privacy and Data Protection Team, will be a panelist, along with a representative of the Massachusetts Office of Attorney General Consumer Protection Division, at the International Association of Privacy Professionals Global Privacy Summit in Washington, D.C., on March 5 through 7.
The panel, “Surviving Data Breach in the Digital Age,” will explore how to prepare for and manage the eventual data breach. Panelists will discuss protection for these cutting-edge assets, appropriate “disaster” plans and types of cyber insurance that may be needed. They’ll also discuss how all of the breach players (legal, forensics, media, notification vendors, call center vendors, insurance claims departments, credit monitoring companies, regulators, etc.) can best work together, and who needs to take the lead and when. They’ll conclude with a review of legislative activity and hands-on breach response role-playing activities.
He will also be a panelist at the Georgetown Corporate Counsel Institute in Washington, D.C., on March 7 through 8.
The panel topic, “Cybersecurity: The Top-of-Mind Issue for General Counsels in 2013, and What You Need to Know to Address It“, will cover:
- The current global environment, including how cloud computing has exacerbated the cybersecurity threat.
- The need for a cybersecurity/data protection strategy to address developing business and strategic imperatives and fiduciary and regulatory obligations.
- Practical responses to cyberattacks and data breaches—the role of the general counsel.
- The challenge of complying with state notification requirements.
- Class action suits and the impact of Edwards v. First American on cybersecurity claims.
