According to a recent IEE report, as of July 2013, approximately 46 million smart meters have been installed in the United States. The deployment has provided about 40 percent of US households with an upgrade from analog electric meters to smart meters. The handy and straight forward 18 page report is alphabetized by utility. In addition to the number of meters installed and expected to be deployed, the notes section provides a high level overview and in some cases docket numbers are given for further investigation. With an eye towards the future, the figure below shows the extent of smart meter deployments expected by 2015 that are either completed, underway, or planned.
