In this latest issue, we review the continued global effort to combat bribery and corruption in 2013. In the United States, reaffirming the government’s war against global corruption, Acting Assistant Attorney General Mythili Raman declared, “Fighting global corruption is, and always will be, a core priority of the Department of Justice.” We survey Foreign Corrupt Practices Act enforcement actions to help you understand current trends in order to avoid or minimize their risk. We also update you on two recent cases that have an important impact on foreign nationals and their susceptibility to U.S. jurisdiction.
We look at developments in the United Kingdom. Despite some tough setbacks for anti-corruption enforcement in 2013, there are signs that the UK authorities will embark in 2014 with a more clearly defined mission and with the prospect of new tools with which to achieve it.
