I really don't think it's a big deal that a congressman pays his taxes late and has to pay a penalty. That's a sign that they *do* handle their own taxes— someone with an accountant handling it would never make a mistake like that. And it's fine to go to court to fight against paying a tax you don't think is lawful, as long as you pay up when you lose. The only tax problem in this article worth mentioning is Rangel's. It's the only one where the person involved could have hoped to illegally reduce his taxes, and it's simple enough that we know it had to be intentional—- everybody knows that if you earn income, you should report it. As for the others, give them a break— taxes are tough for congressmen just like they are for us.
