Texas Bar Foundation provides e-filing support to Community Justice Program

The Texas Bar Foundation has awarded a $2,500 grant to the San Antonio Bar Association’s Community Justice Program to fund the purchase of five new scanners for use in the program’s pro bono family law clinics and tech center. The scanners will help staff and volunteers e-file pleadings to the Bexar County District Clerk’s office, in compliance with the Supreme Court of Texas order mandating electronic filing in civil cases.

A collaborative effort with the Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, the San Antonio Bar Association’s Community Justice Program strives to make a difference in the lives of low-income residents and provide free neighborhood-based legal services to individuals who may not otherwise have access to the legal system. The Community Justice Program accepts uncontested family law matters, name changes, agreed custody issues, preparation of wills and ancillary documents, and provides advice to veterans on issues related to benefits, landlord and tenant disputes, consumer problems, child support, and other legal issues. Since its 2002 launch, the program has matched more than 7,000 pro bono cases with local volunteer attorneys.
