Moving to opportunity?

Roof OutlineThe New York Times recently published an interesting Op-Ed by Thomas B. Edsell that asks “Does Moving Poor People Work?”.  The answer is, of course, not a simple one.  The piece, however, discusses the findings of recent studies of the Moving to Opportunity program and of the effects of intergenerational transmission of disadvantage on low-income children.  The author recommends pursuit of more research on solutions that are education-based or neighborhood-based, or both.  While there may not be answers yet, many housing, education and service providers continue to develop innovative programs to address these issues, which is hopefully a step in the right direction.
