Tunisia is the latest country to announce plans to build a border wall. The North African nation will construct a wall along it’s 100-mile border with Libya in an effort to counteract terrorism.
Check out this map of the region.
It’s hard to envision how a wall along the Libyan border would protect Tunisia given that the country has no plans to build another wall along it’s Algerian border. This, of course, puts aside the question entirely of whether walls are actually effective in stopping migration flows.
The Tunisian government is reacting to the June 26 attack outside of Sousse that resulted in the deaths of 39 foreign tourists. And, in particular, it’s reacting to the news that the gunman responsible for that attack may have received training in Libya.
In the meantime, 1400 armed officers have been deployed to hotels and beaches in an effort to keep tourists safe.
