Hamburg NJ Handgun Possession ChargesA Hamburg NJ man recently pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm inside his residence.

The 24-year-old suspect appeared in Sussex County Superior Court in Newton NJ and reportedly pleaded guilty.

In March, Hamburg NJ police officers and members of the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home. The search warrant reportedly dealt with an unrelated criminal matter.

During the search of the residence, law enforcement reportedly discovered an unloaded assault rifle. According to law enforcement, the assault rifle was not legally registered.

Additionally, police officers who searched the home allegedly came across several rounds of high-capacity ammunition magazines. Police reportedly found the ammo in a safe inside the home.

The suspect was arrested and charged with multiple weapons offenses, including second degree unlawful possession of an assault firearm and fourth degree possession of large capacity ammunition magazines.

After being placed under arrest, the suspect was transported to the Sussex County Jail. He was released after his parents posted $77,500 bail.

Now that the suspect has reached a plea agreement with Sussex County prosecutors and pleaded guilty to one of the weapons offenses, he will need to return to superior court in October for a sentencing hearing. The Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office reportedly expects to recommend that the suspect receive a sentence of probation.
