In recognition of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, attorneys can listen to speakers Hyattye O. Simmons and Deborah Butler discuss the importance of “Cyber Security and Data Privacy” during the 23rd Annual Texas Minority Counsel Program (TMCP) from 4:15 to 4:45 p.m. on October 15 at the Westin Houston Memorial City hotel.

While researching cyber security and data privacy in Texas, Simmons asked Gov. Greg Abbott to issue an updated proclamation declaring October to be Cyber Security Awareness Month in Texas. Cyber Security Awareness Month is designed to promote safe habits among Internet users and to provide Texans with the opportunity to educate themselves about keeping personal information secure, learning current online fraud schemes, and other basics of cyber security.

Understanding the role technology plays in the lives of many Texans, Gov. Abbott granted the request by reissuing the proclamation. Attorneys who attend the session will join Simmons in thanking the governor for renewing the state’s commitment to cyber security.

TMCP is a client development, networking, and CLE event for diverse attorneys in Texas. The program was created to increase opportunities for minority and women attorneys who provide legal services to corporate and government clients, and to expose those organizations to the talent of diverse attorneys.
