Fear of a Diverse Planet or Thinking about Racism as a Memeplex

For a while now, I have been giving thought about seeing racism as a memeplex. This way of considering racism may offer a way of understanding ourselves, and thus providing a way of thinking outside of ideology.

Philosophers and critical thinkers have been applying meme theory as a way to explain why

The deeper point implied in this post is that we should be reflective about why others hold their opinions, and most important, why you hold your opinions. To ask oneself, "am I right about this," is to open oneself up to the question of whether one's own opinion is grounded in facts and critical inquiry or whether it belongs with pink unicorns. If one engages in the self reflection that requires, it can develop more rationality about one's own views and compassion about the views of others, even if they are of the pink unicorn variety. (And to be clear, compassion does not equal capitulation). If more people did that as a starting point for their own opining, our discourse would be far more sane.
