Police in Gloucester Township NJ recently apprehended a man who allegedly burglarized a parked vehicle and stole personal possessions.
The car break-in and theft reportedly went down just before 2:00 a.m. Gloucester Township law enforcement received a call from a resident who said that they noticed a suspicious individual taking items from a car parked on the street.
Police officers were sent to the area, where they encountered the suspect inside the vehicle. According to authorities, the suspect bolted the scene and hopped into a getaway car.
Gloucester Township cops were able to track down the suspect based on a detailed description of his getaway vehicle. Police officers soon located and arrested the suspect in Deptford Township, New Jersey. He was reportedly arrested without incident.
The suspect, a 19-year-old man from the Blackwood area of Gloucester Township NJ, has been charged with burglary and theft of movable property.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted of burglary, he would face severe criminal penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2, burglary is usually considered a third degree crime. A conviction on third degree burglary charges could result in a sentence of 3-5 years in NJ State Prison.
After being placed under arrest and processed at Gloucester police headquarters, the suspect was released on his own recognizance. He will have to appear in Gloucester Township Municipal Court at a later date to answer the burglary and theft charges.
