Chatham NJ Traffic AttorneysA Madison NJ man will stay out of jail after being sentenced to Pre-Trial Intervention (PTI) for leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in the death of a man in Chatham Township, New Jersey.

The suspect is a 63-year-old man from Madison, New Jersey. He was involved in an auto accident on Shunpike Road in Chatham Township NJ around 5:00 p.m. on January 3, 2017. The suspect hit a 76-year-old man who happened to be walking across the roadway.

After the crash, the suspect reportedly kept driving and fled the scene of the accident. Roughly 30 minutes later, he dialed 911 to notify the police.

The victim, who was from Glen Cove, New York, died at the scene of the accident.

The suspect eventually reached a deal with Morris County prosecutors and pleaded guilty to traffic charges for leaving the scene of an accident. The suspect was subsequently sentenced to probation, fined $2,500, and had his license suspended for 12 months. If the suspect had faced more serious criminal charges for vehicular manslaughter, he would have been subject to prison time.
